DuPage PADS has provided essential services to the homeless in DuPage County for 25 years and assists them in being self-sufficient to stop the cycle of homelessness. Sounds like a win-win! Wouldn’t you agree? Hope to see you there!

I visited Eva last week and had an hour-long microdermabrasion, eye brow wax, tint and eyelash tint. I had a microderm before, as well as the “trio” (eye brow wax, tint and eyelash tint) as the services are called at a downtown Naperville makeup boutique, and thought I knew it all. Nope. Eva takes a much different approach, she’s more particular and examines your face thoroughly before she begins to wax and shape. In fact, I have never lain down to have my brows waxed before!

I LOVE my brows! She carefully tinted then shaped and waxed them and gently, with no stinging, tinted my lashes. It was so nice to be able to lie down having this done instead of sitting in an plastic chair for 15 minutes with my eyes closed during the lash tint.

Once that was taken care of, the microdermabrasion began. The diamond-tipped wand on your face feels like a little exfoliating vacuum cleaner sloughing off the dead skin cells to make room for the glowing, younger skin underneath! I love the way it felt, gentle yet I know something was happening. I finished off my treatment with another skin cleansing, hydrating mask and application of moisturiser. The treatment was relaxing and my skin looked radiant!

Happily, I was able to walk out of the salon without reapplying mascara because my lashes and brows looked amazing, and my skin was glowing. This treatment is highly recommended!

Jen's Vacation Hair!

Now, if you are extra nice and compliment her, she might put you in her suitcase and take you with on vacation…if I were only so lucky!

I love ease and relaxed nature of spring and summer fashions, but I tend to get lazy with my hair. It has “humidity issues”  resulting in a wavy hot mess on my head during those  humid days.  And if it’s too hot, I’ll ditch my hair dryer and flat iron…So lazy! What’s a girl to do? Put it up! That’s right, cute updos for the warmer weather.

Rethink standbys like the ponytail and try something new like this braided updo from Redken’s “Looks from the Runway.” Can’t wait to try it!

Hair before

Spring is a time for renewal with sunnier days and dispositions. Makes sense then to undergo a renewal of my own…with highlights! So last Friday morning I saw my friend Dan at Innovations Salon of Naperville for some fun spring hair.

Dan suggested highlights and touching up my Chromatics color to brighten up my look. I, always trusting my buddy Dan to make me gorgeous, was on board!  Off he went to mix up my fabulous batch of Chromatics color. He applied it to my roots and then selected sections around my face and top of my head for foils.  Once the foils were in, he applied the  Chromatics color to the remaining hair.

When my color was ready, I was given a complimentary “Chem Shot” deep conditioning treatment. This treatment is free with any Chromatics color service during April, yay! My hair was super happy with Chromatics, which strengthens your hair a ton AND a Chem Shot…pretty fantastic! And, so are the results…see for yourself!

After!

My eyes quickly went over to the Pureology products showcased beautifully in a bright corner of the salon. I had used the Super Smooth Relaxing Serum with fantastic results, but Dan liked my hair with “movement” so I was directed to the Pure Volume section. There are a few factors I look for when choosing product: does it smell good and does it have sulfates. Luckily it smelled fantastic and had no sulfates! And, as an added bonus, Pureology is committed to sustainable practices. Read their sustainability philosophy here.

Good smelling, feel-good hair products, but do they work? YES! My hair is so soft, with tons of movement, body and shine. Of course much of this can be credited to the amazing Chromatics color, but the product one uses to care for their color-treated hair is paramount!

The pub, fresh off of St. Patrick’s Day festivities, was once again filled to the brim with supporters of St. Baldrick’s, shavers, shavees, Irish dancers, musicians and scores of volunteers. Glancer Magazine popped in to take some photos of the shenanigans, too!

The event was a huge success, shaving well over a 100 heads and raising thousands of dollars to support St. Baldrick’s. Although I didn’t shave my head  (just too pretty with my Chromatics by Redken hair color!), I provided much encouragement to the many brave men and WOMEN, who went bald today. Here’s to you the Bold, the Brave and the Bald!

My friend Jen and I were hair models this week for Innovations Salon Naperville to try a new coloring product by Redken that is a “game changer” in the color world…Chromatics. Chromatics just sounds cool, and having seen the product’s video teaser, I was excited to try! Go ahead and watch it here: Redken Teaser Video

The staff at Innovations and the Redken educators were excited to see that Jen was a “hair virgin” never had color, and I the bold and brave redhead was up for anything. We were promised amazing color, brilliant shine and touchable softness. Chromatics delivered!

Jen’s color was applied by Karen, and mine was applied by salon owners Bob and Dan…apparently I have a lot of hair! But, the staff at Innovations was there to learn so it was an “all hands on deck” experience. The color was thicker then your average hair color and took a bit longer to apply. However, the results were well worth the wait!  See for yourself!
